Texas AG Paxton Alleges Fraud In ActBlue Donations, Petitions FEC For New Rules
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has petitioned the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to address alleged straw donations made through ActBlue, a Democratic Party fundraising platform. Paxton launched an investigation into ActBlue in December 2023 and claims to have uncovered numerous fraudulent transactions.
The investigation revealed that prepaid credit cards were being used to disguise the identities of donors, a practice Paxton says facilitates straw donations. These donations allow a contributor to use another person’s identity, often without their knowledge, to make political donations that evade campaign finance laws.
Paxton has called for the FEC to implement stricter regulations to close fundraising loopholes. “Our investigation into ActBlue has uncovered facts indicating that bad actors can illegally interfere in American elections by disguising political donations,” Paxton said. He urged the FEC to act swiftly, warning that if these issues are not addressed, foreign money could be illegally funneled into U.S. elections.
While ActBlue introduced a requirement for CVV codes on credit card donations in August, Paxton argues that this measure does not go far enough to prevent fraud.
