Top Aide To NY Governors Arrested For Alleged Chinese Communist Ties
A former aide to New York Govs. Kathy Hochul and Andrew Cuomo was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly acting as an undisclosed agent for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Linda Sun, 41, and her husband, Christopher Hu, 40, face multiple federal charges after their Long Island home was raided by the FBI.
The charges against Sun include violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, alien smuggling, and money laundering conspiracy. Her husband has been charged with money laundering conspiracy and bank fraud. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York alleges that the couple laundered millions of dollars to benefit the Chinese government, using the funds to purchase luxury properties and vehicles.
The indictment reveals that Sun used her position within the New York state government to block Taiwan representatives from meeting with state officials while arranging meetings for Chinese officials. The couple’s purchases included a $4.1 million home in Long Island, a $2.1 million condo in Hawaii, and luxury vehicles such as a 2024 Ferrari.
U.S. Attorney Breon Peace stated that the defendant and her husband enriched themselves while furthering the interests of the Chinese government and the CCP. He emphasized that the case reflects the ongoing federal effort to combat foreign interference.
Gov. Hochul’s administration terminated Sun’s employment in March 2023 after discovering evidence of her misconduct. The administration has since fully cooperated with the investigation.
This arrest highlights the need for continued vigilance in protecting U.S. government institutions from foreign influence and ensuring that public officials remain loyal to American interests.
