Trump Appoints Border Hawk Tom Homan To Lead Fight Against Illegal Immigration
President-elect Donald Trump has announced Tom Homan as his choice to oversee border security and deportations, signaling a major shift toward restoring order at the southern border. Homan’s appointment as “Border Czar” is being celebrated by conservatives as a win for border security advocates and a major improvement from the failures of the last border czar, Vice President Kamala Harris, after years of unchecked illegal migration.
Homan, a staunch defender of Trump’s immigration policies, served as acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from 2017 to 2018. During his tenure, he earned a reputation for tough enforcement, prioritizing deportations and border security. Trump, in his announcement on Truth Social, called Homan the best man for the job, saying, “There is nobody better at policing and controlling our borders.”
As Border Czar, Homan will work within the White House to push for the enforcement of immigration laws and the deportation of illegal migrants. This role allows him to bypass Senate confirmation, enabling him to begin coordinating efforts immediately upon Trump’s inauguration.
Trump has promised an aggressive approach to border security, including a large-scale deportation effort. His administration plans to first target the 1.3 million migrants who have exhausted their legal appeals and are under final deportation orders. Convicted criminals and those involved in ongoing offenses will also be prioritized.
Homan’s appointment comes amid historic levels of illegal migration under the Biden-Harris administration, which Trump has repeatedly criticized. The nearly 9 million illegal entries during Biden’s tenure have overwhelmed border communities and strained national resources, according to Trump’s allies.
This bold move is seen as a signal that the incoming administration is prepared to reject the establishment’s softer approach to immigration. Conservatives view Homan’s leadership as a clear step toward securing the border and defending American citizens from the economic and security challenges posed by unchecked migration.
