Former President Donald Trump doubled down on his support for some of his most passionate followers on Saturday. He addressed a cheering crowd in Clinton, Iowa, on the third anniversary of the Jan. 6 protests, and he issued a challenge to President Joe Biden.

Trump referred to those jailed by overzealous Biden prosecutors as “hostages” and demanded that the White House secure their release.

The 2024 Republican frontrunner remained steadfast in his stand that peaceful demonstrators are being relentlessly pursued by those with a political vendetta. “They ought to release them. I call them hostages, some people call them prisoners, I call them hostages.”

Trump then raised his voice and directly addressed the 46th president. “Release the J6 hostages, Joe! Release them, Joe! You can do them real easy, Joe! This guy, what he’s done to people.”

The Department of Justice under the Biden administration has prosecuted well over 1,000 demonstrators in the past three years. And word came just last week that the agency will now target thousands who never even entered the Capitol or were accused of a violent act.

More than 1,200 Americans faced various charges for the protest, and over 900 have either pled guilty or been found guilty by a judge or jury. Trump declared “they’ve suffered enough.”

The former president also suffered persecution, and he told the Iowa audience that he was “indicted because I challenged the crooked election.”

The state is preparing to launch the national primary season with its Jan. 15 caucuses. Trump holds a dominant lead over his GOP rivals and looks to cruise to a resounding victory in the Hawkeye State.

He is spending considerable time in Iowa, however, and pointedly chose not to rest on his comfortable margin. He told voters Saturday that a crushing win would send a message to the party and the nation that he will be the nominee.

The 45th president is expected to spend more time in Iowa this week as the countdown to caucus day continues.

Trump’s words came in stark contrast to leftist media ramblings on the third anniversary of Jan. 6.

A particularly bizarre moment came Saturday when MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart erupted in tears during the segment. He was interviewing a police officer who was present at the Capitol that day when he had his emotional display.
