In light of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that permits federal border agents to remove concertina wire placed along a portion of the southern border, Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has reiterated his dedication to stemming the tide of illegal immigration.

A growing number of other GOP officials have signaled their allegiance with Abbott, including former President Donald Trump.

In a statement on Thursday, the 2024 Republican presidential primary front-runner took aim at the White House for its role in facilitating the arrival of millions of undocumented immigrants over the past three years.

“Joe Biden has surrendered our Border, and is aiding and abetting a massive Invasion of millions of Illegal Migrants into the United States,” Trump wrote. “Instead of fighting to protect our Country from this onslaught, Biden is, unbelievably, fighting to tie the hands of Governor Abbott and the State of Texas, so that the Invasion continues unchecked.”

He went on to endorse Abbott’s citation of a constitutional clause allowing states to protect their borders in the case of an invasion and urged others to unite behind the strategy.

“All Americans should support the Safety, Security, and Sovereignty of Texas, and of the American people,” the former president continued. “When I am President, on Day One, instead of fighting Texas, I will work hand in hand with Governor Abbott and other Border States to Stop the Invasion, Seal the Border, and Rapidly Begin the Largest Domestic Deportation Operation in History.”

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) also confirmed his belief that the governor is taking appropriate steps in his ongoing feud with the Biden administration.

He was asked during a recent interview whether he saw the current situation as a “come-and-take-it Alamo moment” and replied: “Absolutely. We’re defending Texas and defending this country.”

Republican governors in more than two dozen other states have already signaled their support for Abbott’s strategy in Texas, which he defended in a statement following the Supreme Court decision.

“The federal government has broken the compact between the United States and the States,” Abbott wrote. “The Executive Branch of the United States has a constitutional duty to enforce federal laws protecting states, including immigration laws on the books right now. President Biden has refused to enforce those laws and has even violated them.”
