President Donald Trump has signed an executive order delivering another significant blow to the federal government’s bloated and entrenched bureaucracy, ending collective bargaining rights for administrative personnel in numerous federal agencies.

This move directly challenges what conservatives describe as a culture within federal employment that clearly feels entitled to taxpayer money. The order impacts critical agencies including the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, State, and Veterans Affairs, all of which Trump asserts must prioritize efficiency and national security over union interests.

Trump’s administration utilized authority from the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, arguing that unions have consistently obstructed necessary management reforms. According to the White House, the federal government exists to serve the American people — not to act as a taxpayer-funded jobs program providing comfortable benefits and secure careers to government workers.

Public-sector unions, led by the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), immediately vowed to challenge the executive order in court. Union President Everett Kelley described the order as retaliation for union opposition to previous workforce reductions implemented by Trump.

However, conservatives strongly argue that public unions are fundamentally anti-American, as they represent little more than organized looting of American taxpayers by organized government employees. They contend that unions obstruct necessary reform efforts and inflate the cost of government operations.

Trump’s Justice Department quickly moved to defend the order by filing a lawsuit in Texas, asserting that the president has full authority to terminate existing collective bargaining agreements to protect national security interests. Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that these agreements severely restrict executive oversight and hinder effective governance.

This executive order is part of Trump’s broader effort to scale back the size of government. Elon Musk, head of Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency, has pledged aggressive spending cuts, aiming to eliminate billions in daily expenditures from the federal budget.

Supporters of the order have stated clearly that if government employees object to new terms of employment, they are welcome to find real jobs in the private sector, just as everyday Americans must do.
