Trump Proposes Sending Thousands Of IRS Agents To The Southern Border
President Donald Trump has suggested a bold reassignment of the Biden administration’s newly hired IRS agents, proposing that they be stationed at the U.S.-Mexico border to support immigration enforcement efforts. Speaking to supporters in Las Vegas, Trump emphasized his plan to redirect these federal employees to a role that would benefit national security rather than burden American taxpayers.
During his speech, Trump pointed out that the Biden administration sought to add 88,000 agents to the IRS workforce, claiming they were intended to target middle-class families. Instead of allowing them to audit hard-working Americans, Trump said, “I think we’re going to move them to the border where they are allowed to carry guns.” The former president noted that under existing regulations, some IRS agents are already permitted to carry firearms, making them suitable for deployment to the border.
Trump’s administration quickly halted the hiring of these agents through an executive order shortly after taking office. The hiring freeze, which affects most federal agencies, is expected to remain in place while the administration evaluates the need for additional personnel. The president’s proposal to repurpose the agents for border security is part of a broader effort to prioritize immigration enforcement.
Beyond addressing border security, Trump has also announced plans to overhaul the tax system. His vision includes replacing traditional income taxes with tariffs on imported goods, particularly from nations that fail to cooperate with U.S. immigration policies. Trump vowed to implement a 25% tariff on goods from countries like Mexico and Canada, emphasizing that revenue collected would directly benefit American citizens rather than foreign governments.
As part of his efforts to streamline federal operations, Trump has also floated the idea of creating an External Revenue Service focused solely on collecting tariffs and duties. This would effectively replace the IRS’s current role in collecting domestic taxes, aligning with his broader push for trade-based revenue streams.
The president’s proposal has been met with strong support from his base, who see it as a practical solution to both the border crisis and the intrusive role of the IRS. Critics, however, argue that shifting IRS agents to border duties may not align with their training and responsibilities.
In addition to his border security initiatives, Trump continues to advocate for the elimination of income taxes, pointing to historical periods when tariffs funded government operations.
