President Donald Trump has declared his intention to continue holding outdoor rallies, despite a recent assassination attempt that occurred just two weeks ago. In a post on Truth Social, Trump affirmed his commitment to these events, stating that the Secret Service will significantly enhance their security measures to ensure his safety. Trump emphasized the importance of not allowing threats to impede free speech and public gatherings.

The incident in question took place on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire during one of Trump’s rallies. Although Trump was grazed in the ear, the attack resulted in the death of retired firefighter Corey Comperatore and serious injuries to Marine veteran David Dutch and retired grandfather James Copenhaver. Crooks was killed by a Secret Service sniper during the altercation.

In the wake of the attack, the Secret Service faced intense scrutiny over security lapses, leading to the resignation of Agency Director Kimberly Cheatle. Despite the concerns, Trump’s decision to continue outdoor rallies signifies his confidence in the agency’s ability to protect him.

Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, who now serves as chair of the Republican National Committee, has also expressed full confidence in the Secret Service’s capability to ensure the former president’s safety. This stance counters suggestions from critics that Trump should enhance his security with private measures.

Trump’s commitment to outdoor rallies underscores his defiance in the face of threats and his dedication to maintaining direct contact with his supporters during the campaign.
