In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and the unbelievable suffering experienced by the Americans whose homes fell in the storm’s path, West Virginia coal miners rebuilt a critical road in North Carolina, allowing residents of Chimney Rock to finally return to what’s left of their homes. The miners, known locally as the “West Virginia Boys,” worked for three days to reopen 2.7 miles of Highway 64 after the storm had completely washed it away.

Robin Phillips, a Chimney Rock resident, expressed her gratitude. “The river swallowed the road, so I haven’t been home since the hurricane,” she said. “The West Virginia boys moved the mountains. All the roads were just gone, until now.” Thanks to their work, Phillips, who also runs a local campground, will soon return home to assess the damage.

While the miners moved quickly to provide relief, the Biden-Harris administration has faced criticism for its slow response. Federal agencies like FEMA and the North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) visited the site but did not take direct action. Many locals have not yet received promised aid despite repeated requests.

Logan Campbell, a volunteer from Mississippi, highlighted the dedication of the miners. “People from all backgrounds came together, and it’s inspiring,” he said. Campbell and fellow volunteer Dan Lewis have been camping for over two weeks, putting in their time and effort to help locals get back home.

Bat Cave resident Curtis McCart noted that while FEMA has recently set up a site at the local fire department, it came much later than needed. “The first FEMA guy came in about a week ago,” Lewis mentioned. “These people should be supplied with what was promised to them on television.”

Despite federal agencies’ slow response, the volunteer efforts have made a significant difference, demonstrating that sometimes grassroots action gets the job done when government aid falls short. While the Biden-Harris regime continues to fund the wars of foreign nations, citizens have been left to fill in the considerably large gaps to help suffering Americans here at home.
