New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) has canceled his scheduled trip to the U.S.-Mexico border after being invited by the head of a far-left, pro-illegal immigration NGO.

Citing “safety concerns,” Adams’ visit to the southern border in Texas was scrapped. The Democrat mayor was planning on heading to the border and into Mexico in response to an invitation from Sister Norma Pimentel, the executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley in San Juan.

Catholic Charities is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that has become involved in the border crisis thanks to its funding of illegal aliens’ journeys to the United States. The NGO gives food, shelter and clothing to illegal aliens, pays for their legal assistance to push through “asylum” claims that are often fraudulent and helps in “resettling refugees from all corners of the world” into American communities.

Catholic Charities was even caught paying police officers to guard a camp filled with illegal aliens and facilitate human smuggling while wearing their official police uniform.

It is no surprise that this group invited Adams to the border, as he was previously a strong supporter of illegal immigration but has grown weary of the issue in recent months in response to a massive influx of illegal aliens into New York City that have overwhelmed city resources and shelters.

However, unidentified “safety concerns” have paused his plans.

“As Lent draws to a close, our team was excited to stand with faith and humanitarian leaders who have dedicated their lives to serving the most needy among us, and we were eager to discuss our work in New York City and explore new ways to collaborate with leaders in cities across the country,” Adam’s spokeswoman explained in a statement on Saturday.

“But due to safety concerns at one of the cities we were going to visit in Mexico flagged by the U.S. Department of State, we have decided to pause this visit at this time,” the spokeswoman added, though she did not elaborate as to which city was experienced the supposed safety concerns.

Despite speaking out about the devastating effects that President Joe Biden’s border crisis has had on New York City, Adams is still a supporter of open borders policies — he just wants the illegal aliens to be better distributed across the country rather than flooding into his city, where they flock to because of the generous taxpayer-funded benefits they receive. Adams previously planned a trip to Washington, D.C., to attempt to speak to Biden about the issue — but ended up canceling this trip as well after hearing about a curiously-timed FBI raid at his chief fundraiser’s house that was linked to an investigation of Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign.

However, Adams has had one trip related to the border crisis that was not canceled — a visit to the southern border while he traveled to El Paso in January 2023. During the visit, he continued to walk the delicate line between continuing to support far-left illegal immigration policies while also calling out the crisis.

“Our cities are being undermined. And we don’t deserve this. Migrants don’t deserve this. And the people who live in the cities don’t deserve this,” Adams said. “We expect more from our national leaders to address this issue in a real way.”
