Leftist Writer Blames ‘MAGA’ For Recent Attacks On Women
Violent crime is on the rise across the United States, particularly in deep-blue jurisdictions like New York City. While many analysts blame soft-on-crime prosecutors and an unchecked flow of undocumented migrants for contributing to the problem, some on the left cannot resist pointing a finger — without providing any credible evidence — at supporters of former President Donald Trump.
That was the case with Amanda Marcotte, a writer for Salon who took on the troubling spate of unprovoked attacks on women in the Big Apple recently by asserting that conservative men are to blame.
Specifically, she used the acronym for Trump’s “Make America Great Again” platform in speculating that a “desperate last gasp of the male rage fueling MAGA” contributed to the attacks in the Democrat-dominated city.
“These stories resonate, as well, because the nation is having a moment of increasingly unhinged male fury at women for daring to have lives that are centered around something other than catering to a man’s every whim,” Marcotte wrote.
She went on to claim that the supposed “upswell of loud male entitlement shouting at us from every corner” has been “[u]nleashed by Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.”
Of course, the writer provides no connection between the inexcusable attacks on women and the various conservative commentators she smeared in her article — and a number of right-leaning pundits and elected officials took her to task for her unsubstantiated allegations.
Republican New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino weighed in on social media with her assessment that “drug-crazed and violent criminals target people who can’t fight back, and that’s usually unarmed women.”
She went on to conclude that leaders “can fix the problem by locking these men in prison or psych wards,” asserting that the issue “doesn’t require a ninth-grade feminist think piece in Salon.”
Christina Pushaw, a spokesperson for GOP Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, quipped that she “[c]an’t wait for more journalism layoffs.”
Instead of offering any justification for her invocation of the MAGA movement in connection with the recent attacks in New York City, Marcotte simply claimed that the backlash she received somehow bolstered her argument.
“Man, I knew this article was super true when I wrote it, but the hateful emails MAGA men are sending doubly prove it,” she insisted. “Hit dogs, as they say, holler.”
