Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) finds it objectionable that members of the armed forces have access to conservative news and viewpoints. He recently questioned troops having access to Fox News, though CNN and MSNBC seem to be acceptable.

Interviewed by MSNBC’s Katie Phang, the congressman listened as the host voiced issues concerning the Dominion voting system lawsuit against Fox News.

She prefaced her question by asserting her undying respect for the First Amendment, but then immediately asked if there should be “some type of gatekeeping.”

As a response, Swalwell urged the banning of Fox News from military bases. He quickly noted that the network is popular with service members, and that it makes them “feel more like home.” He added that there would be considerable dissension to such a move.

The representative denied wanting to “get in the business of telling troops what they can and cannot watch.” But he issued a qualification for that position.

If a news outlet is perpetuating dis- and misinformation, perhaps the government should look at screening what is available for our armed forces to view. Interesting take.

It begs the question, who will decide what is dis- and misinformation? Does denial of the validity of Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop count? Does questioning the process and outcome of an election mean that the outlet will no longer be streamed at a military installation?

Perhaps. Swalwell explained, “we need to take a look at how [Fox News] is being broadcast to our troops.”

His push came from the PAC VoteVets, which initiated the call to ban Fox News on military installations. The leftist group tweeted that the network spreads “election lies and disinformation” which in turn “hurts unit cohesion, and weakens America’s national defense.”

Just to be clear, it is Fox News and not MSNBC or CNN endangering national security, according to this outfit?

VoteVets added the declaration that “they must be removed from all TVs on military installations NOW.”

The leftist media and Democratic lawmakers are currently up in arms over Fox’s Tucker Carlson airing unedited footage from the so-called “insurrection.” Some network hosts are also targeted for suggesting that Dominion may have influenced the 2020 presidential election outcome.
