Mexican authorities confirmed eight Chinese migrants tragically drowned off the nation’s coast after they apparently traveled by boat up from Guatemala. They are believed to have been on a journey to illegally enter the U.S.

The accident happened on Friday off the coast of Oaxaca in a watery region known as Istmo de Tehuantepec. Several bodies were found on the shore of Vicente Beach, and they were identified as seven men and one woman.

A male survivor of the mishap is being treated for injuries. He told authorities that the watercraft was steered by a Mexican.

The Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office confirmed in a weekend statement that the bodies which washed up on the shore were Chinese migrants. The group is believed to have departed the border city of Tapachula, Chiapas, on Thursday.

The area is a well known launch point for those seeking to travel north to the U.S. The nine people were on a raft which capsized on their trip.

Mexican officials are in contact with their Chinese counterparts to identify the deceased and return the bodies to their homeland.

Mexico is increasingly embroiled in the illegal migrant controversy that grips the U.S. Millions travel through the country every year to reach the southwestern border and gain entry into the country.

And thanks to the Biden’s White House’s utter lack of concern for border security and sanctuary cities welcoming all newcomers, the number of travelers through Mexico skyrocketed during the current Democratic administration.

Tensions increased in recent days after an explosive interview granted to CBS’ “60 Minutes” by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. He told the outlet that he would solve the U.S. illegal migrant crisis on his own — but at a price.

That price would be billions in assistance for the southern neighbor.

That, however, is likely a pipe dream. Even as he made that dramatic declaration thousands of Central American migrants were making their way through the country northward to the U.S. border.

They are reportedly being escorted by Mexican authorities.
