Even CNN Sees Weiss Appointment As ‘Very Suspicious’
When the leftist talking heads at CNN recognize President Joe Biden’s weaponization of the federal government in defense of his family’s interests, that is proof positive that something is amiss.
Anchor Jake Tapper declared Friday that the appointment of U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel is “very suspicious.”
Tapper went on camera with a panel that broke down the timing of Attorney General Merrick Garland’s startling announcement. The consensus was that the aboutface raised far more questions than it answered, particularly considering the disintegration of Hunter Biden’s plea agreement.
The sweetheart deal reached in June derailed when U.S. District Court Judge Maryellen Noreika rejected the blanket immunity that it granted the president’s son. The younger Biden was forced to plead “not guilty” and will likely face trial.
Tapper asked if Weiss, who signed off on the egregious plea deal to begin with, knows details that should be included in the special counsel probe that did not come to light earlier.
And if so, why agree to the deal?
Tapper, to his credit, destroyed whatever logic backed up the special counsel appointment. Weiss was a strange choice, he observed, when most special counsels are not government employees.
Why, he asked, should Weiss be trusted with this investigation when his plea deal was demolished by a federal judge? And further, did his appointment confirm what was alleged to Congress by the IRS whistleblowers?
Tapper went on to affirm that “some of the political questions being raised by Republicans have merit.”
A tall admission for a CNN anchor, to be sure.
Meanwhile, there are growing calls for David Weiss to recuse himself from the investigation into Hunter Biden’s international business dealings. Breitbart’s Emma-Jo Morris told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” that the sweetheart deal agreed upon in June is evidence that Weiss should go.
Morris said the impediments the Weiss appointment created to the investigation into the younger Biden by House Republicans are clear. A possible impeachment inquiry into the president would enable the House Oversight Committee to function “more like a prosecutor.”
And they would have many pointed questions to ask Weiss about the plea deal as well as the overall investigation.
After all, Weiss clearly attempted to let Hunter walk free on offenses that carry far harsher penalties than tax evasion.
