Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley plans to enter the 2024 presidential race, as reports emerge indicating that she will make her formal announcement on February 15.

Invitations have reportedly been sent out to Haley’s backers for a “special announcement” event that will be held at The Shed Downtown at the Charleston Visitor Center in downtown Charleston, South Carolina.

According to a report from South Carolina-based outlet Post and Courier, a “member of Haley’s inner circle” confirmed her plans to launch a presidential bid.

This report comes less than two weeks after Haley spoke with Fox News’ Bret Baier about a potential presidential campaign, saying that she thinks she could be the leader to bring the United States in a “new direction.”

“When you’re looking at a run for president, you look at two things: You first look at, does the current situation push for new leadership? The second question is, ‘Am I that person that could be that new leader?’” the former ambassador said.

“Can I be that leader? Yes, I think I can be that leader,” Haley added.

Following former President Donald Trump’s campaign announcement last year, Haley will likely be the second Republican to enter the presidential race.

Meanwhile, a memoir published by former CIA Director Mike Pompeo claimed that Haley “played” Trump’s former chief of staff and plotted with Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump to become Trump’s vice president. Haley has dismissed those claims, saying they were just “lies and gossip to sell a book.”

Haley’s impending announcement contradicts previous comments, as she said in 2021 that she would not run for president if Trump announced his candidacy.

“I would not run if President Trump ran, and I would talk to him about it,” Haley said. “That’s something we’ll have a conversation about at some point, if that decision is something that has to be made.”

Apparently, Haley and Trump already discussed her plans during his campaign stop in South Carolina. The former president has revealed that Haley called him and spoke to him about her decision to run for president, which he said that he “encouraged.”

“I talked to her for a little while. I said, ‘Look, you know, go by your heart if you want to run,’” Trump said. “She called me and said she’d like to consider it, and I said you should do it.”

Meanwhile, critics of Haley have asserted that she will get little to no support from the conservative base.

Even a poll from conservative political analyst Matt Couch showed that conservatives have no desire for her to run for president, with 93.7% of respondents affirming that “Nobody cares” about her White House bid.
