Ramaswamy Calls For Tucker Carlson To Host GOP Debate On X

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has pitched a new GOP debate format — calling for newly-independent journalist Tucker Carlson to host a fifth debate between the Republican primary candidates exclusively on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The 38-year-old biotech entrepreneur-turned-presidential candidate declared that the Republican National Committee (RNC) has repeatedly failed to reach younger voters.

The RNC, which is responsible for the GOP debates, has also chosen moderators poorly, according to Ramaswamy. He previously called RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel out on this matter specifically during the last debate — pointing out that she had allowed far-left journalists to moderate a GOP debate, while Democrats would “never” allow a journalist who is even slightly right-wing to moderate a Democrat debate.

Ramaswamy also pointed out during the debate that the RNC’s abysmal viewership ratings would be fixed if they had better moderators — suggesting that Carlson, X owner Elon Musk and comedian Joe Rogan as hosts would give the debates “ten times the viewership.”

Now, he is offering more solutions alongside his criticism for the RNC — as they have been facing a lot of backlash for their failures from conservative voters and politicians.

In a post to X on Friday afternoon, Ramaswamy declared: “If there’s a January GOP debate, it should be hosted on X, not on cable TV, moderated by a someone like Tucker Carlson who might just ask questions that primary voters actually care about. The RNC says it wants to reach younger voters & new audiences? Well, that’s how you do it.”

The RNC has held three primary debates for the 2024 presidential election thus far, with a fourth debate scheduled for December. Each of these debates have had poor viewership numbers — especially because former President Donald Trump, the GOP presidential frontrunner, has chosen not to attend, citing his massive lead in the polls and his preference for taking the campaign straight to his likely opponent, President Joe Biden. Trump has also chosen to hold competing events at the same time as each of the debates, attempting to showcase his own popularity over the popularity of the candidates speaking on the debate stage.

For example, Trump gave an exclusive interview with Carlson aired on X at the same time as the first GOP debate. While the debate hosted by Fox News had an average of 12.8 million viewers, Carlson’s interview with Trump received more than 300 million views and has been promoted as one of the most-watched interviews in history.
