In today’s schismatic political landscape, almost anything can serve as the basis for division — including, it appears, opposition to child trafficking.

A number of left-leaning news outlets have disparaged the hit film “Sound of Freedom,” which dramatizes the real-life activism of Tim Ballard. The former federal government employee left his job to set out on a mission to rescue children being victimized and trafficked in Colombia.

Despite efforts to paint the movie’s plot as a conspiracy and its lead actor, Jim Caviezel, as a Q Anon extremist, audiences have flocked to theaters since its opening earlier this month. “Sound of Freedom” even eclipsed the Disney film “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” to top the box office charts.

Viewers are clearly enjoying what they see, as evidenced by its perfect audience score on the review site Rotten Tomatoes.

Now the film is getting a major endorsement of sorts from former President Donald Trump, who confirmed that he will be screening it at his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Wednesday.

Ballard and Caviezel, who portrays Ballard in the film, are both set to join Trump National Golf Club members and the 2024 presidential candidate’s supporters for the event.

During his term in the White House, Trump addressed the issue addressed in the movie, in part by establishing a Public-Private Partnership Advisory Council to End Human Trafficking on which Ballard served.

Eduardo Verastegui, who served on the Trump administration’s Advisory Commission on Hispanic Prosperity, was the producer of “Sound of Freedom.”

The former president met with actor Mel Gibson, who has endorsed and promoted the film, at a UFC fight in Las Vegas, Nevada, earlier this month.

“One of the most disturbing problems in our world today is human trafficking and particularly the trafficking of children,” Gibson said in support of the movie’s message.

Ballard has reportedly indicated that the “Lethal Weapon” star provided behind-the-scenes input as the film was being completed.

In a statement announcing the upcoming screening, the Trump team denounced “liberal media outlets” for either harshly criticizing the film or refusing to review it. The statement called out certain organizations by name, asserting that they have “trashed the film and mocked the millions of movie-goers who purchased tickets to screenings.”
