Speculation Abounds Regarding Democratic Mission To Take Down Adams
Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams was elected by a far-left constituency after running a campaign that emphasized many of the social and economic issues prioritized by modern-day progressives.
Although he has generally governed according to these leftist ideals, he notably strayed from the Democratic Party orthodoxy in response to the disruption caused by an unchecked influx of undocumented migrants.
In the weeks since he tacitly declared that the Biden administration’s lax immigration policy would “destroy New York City,” he has faced mounting challenges that some pundits believe is evidence of a Democratic-led effort to derail his political career.
Earlier this month, Adams’s 2021 campaign was at the center of a corruption probe and federal agents raided the home of Briana Suggs, one of his top fundraisers.
When asked whether he knew anything about the construction firm suspected of illegally piping foreign cash into his campaign coffers, the mayor maintained his innocence.
“I am not familiar with this organization at all,” he said, describing it as “one of the many different groups and organizations that contributes to the campaign.”
He did acknowledge speaking to Suggs in the aftermath of the FBI raid, though, noting: “I have communicated with her since this incident took place. She’s communicating with the team’s attorney, and they’re going to continue to do so.”
More recently, a complaint has been filed against Adams that alleges he had improper contact with a fellow city employee about 20 years ago.
In a statement released through a City Hall spokesperson, he similarly denied any wrongdoing in this case.
“The mayor does not know who this person is,” the source asserted. “If they ever met, he doesn’t recall it. But he would never do anything to physically harm another person and vigorously denies any such claim.”
In the aftermath of the mayor’s statements regarding immigration, several leftist sources began to ignore his other staunchly Democratic policies in favor of describing him as “Black Trump.”
A number of conservative social media users reacted to Adams’ current challenges by suggesting that it is all part of a leftist plan to silence him for going off-script regarding the border crisis.
“If you speak against the regime, you will pay for it,” one user wrote. “Get it yet?”
