To Be Promoted, Seattle Firefighters Must Be CRT Trained

To be a leader in the Seattle Fire Department, it is not enough to be a skilled firefighter, a capable manager, and a respected member of the community. Now you must also be trained in radical ideology.

That’s the sad state of affairs uncovered by the Washington Free Beacon. The outlet revealed that those wishing to rise to the rank of fire lieutenant must endure a startling exam from the Seattle Department of Human Resources.

Among the items tested are knowledge of books from leading woke progressives such as Ibram X. Kendi. He is a prominent supporter of the infamous Critical Race Theory ideology that bases the entirety of American history on racial injustice.

His primary book, “How To Be An Antiracist,” must be studied along with “Both Sides of the Fire Lane: Memoirs of a Transgender Firefighter” by Bobbie Scopa.

Most fire departments base much of their criteria for promotions on a written examination to determine if the candidate is knowledgeable enough to be a leader.

For the liberal bastion that is Seattle, the criteria is notably different.

In a truly bizarre observation from a local study on diversity in firefighting, it was recommended that tests over fighting fires be less reliant “on knowledge of firefighting.”

Rather, the questions should focus more on “the candidate’s character and values, rather than knowing the ins and outs of the job.” In what can only be seen as a demeaning observation, the study concluded that this change “can be beneficial in advancing more women and people of color.”

Wayne Johnson, a retired Seattle firefighter who wrote promotional tests for the department, lamented the changes in standards. “This stuff has nothing to do with firefighting. It has everything to do with social engineering.”

Fireboat engineers, who must do the dangerous work of operating pumps and nozzles to extinguish coastal fires, will be quizzed on much more than their knowledge of their job.

Part of their expertise must be on Robin DiAngelo’s “Is Everyone Really Equal?: An Introduction to Key Concepts in Social Justice Education.” It must also be consumed for those wanting to achieve the rank of fire captain.

This is thankfully the exception and not the norm for cities and their fire departments. Even leftist strongholds generally stick to knowledge of fighting fires for promotion exams. Seattle, however, would rather have their first responders be woke progressives.
