Even as former President Donald Trump faces mounting legal issues, his bid to secure the GOP nomination ahead of next year’s presidential race appears to be firmly on track.

Following an April indictment on charges related to alleged hush money payments to a woman who claimed she had an affair with the married billionaire, Trump was indicted again earlier this month. The most recent charges were filed at the federal level and include more than three dozen counts linked to allegations that he mishandled classified documents.

After appearing in a Florida courtroom on Tuesday, the Trump campaign confirmed that it had raised millions of dollars from donors.

“Since deranged [Department of Justice special counsel] Jack Smith took the unprecedented step of weaponizing the justice system to attack his political opponent, [the Trump campaign] has raised more than $6.6 million in just a few short days,” asserted a statement on Wednesday.

More than $2 million of that sum came from donors at a fundraising event in New Jersey following his appearance in court, during which he pleaded not guilty. Admission to that event was at least $1,000 per person.

The remaining $4.5 million came in through digital fundraising channels.

An even larger influx of cash came in the aftermath of Trump’s previous indictment.

Shortly after the indictment was announced on June 8, the Trump campaign began sending out fundraising emails that portrayed the charges as blatantly political.

“We are watching our Republic DIE before our very eyes,” Trump wrote in one such email. “The Biden-appointed Special Counsel has INDICTED me in yet another witch hunt regarding documents that I had the RIGHT to declassify as President of the United States. Please make a contribution to peacefully stand with me today and prove that YOU will NEVER surrender our country to the radical Left.”

Aside from his ability to raise campaign funds based on his legal woes, Trump’s status as the primary race’s early front-runner also appears secure. According to an average of various major polls compiled by RealClearPolitics, Trump holds a more than 30-point advantage over his nearest Republican rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
