Republicans have long blamed the Biden administration for policies that have exacerbated the nation’s border crisis, resulting in a persistent influx of illegal immigration and a troubling wave of deadly drugs.

GOP lawmakers have repeatedly rebuked the White House and many of their Democratic colleagues for failing to take action that would stem the tide of fentanyl pouring into communities across the country, but the rate of overdose deaths nationwide continues to increase.

Former President Donald Trump addressed the issue this week by unveiling a plan that he said would undo much of the damage caused by his successor.

If elected to serve another term, he promised a “full fentanyl blockade on the waters of our region,” indicating that he would utilize the nation’s military to enforce the strict orders.

He addressed the thorny immigration issue during a campaign event in Iowa on Wednesday, pointing a finger at Biden for “deadly border betrayals” that have left countless American lives destroyed.

“Many people have been badly hurt and even killed by the illegal migrants invading our country. Not one more innocent life should be wrecked by Joe Biden’s open border agenda,” Trump declared. “In my first term, I did more to secure our border than any president in history.”

During a second term, he said that border security would be a central concern, specifically vowing to deploy the U.S. Navy to inspect ships for signs of fentanyl and utilize on “the Alien Enemies Act to remove all known or suspected gang members, drug dealers or cartel members from the United States.”

As part of his focus on eliminating the “scourge of illegal alien gang violence,” Trump said that no tool at his disposal would be off limits — “including moving thousands of troops currently stationed overseas to our own southern border.”

In the meantime, the 2024 GOP presidential front-runner is urging Republicans in the House to use the power of the purse in an attempt to force Biden to take action on the border.

“We cannot wait until 2025 to begin stopping Biden’s nightmare at the border,” Trump concluded. “That is why I am calling on Congressional Republicans to ban Joe Biden from using a single taxpayer dollar to release or resettle illegal aliens into the United States effective Sept. 30. The time for talk is over — now is the time for action.”
