The Biden White House is expected to have a busy week of deflecting reports that agencies under its control are issuing reports confirming what many Americans have believed for years – the COVID-19 pandemic likely originated with a lab leak from the Chinese Wuhan Institute of Virology.

The U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic remains a point of contention, as investigations into the virus’s origin are ongoing. Recently, the Department of Energy (DoE) joined the FBI in concluding that the virus was most likely leaked from a lab in China.

This theory, initially dismissed as a conspiracy by Democrats and mainstream media, is now gaining traction as evidence mounts that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is responsible for the pandemic.

However, the U.S. government remains divided on the issue, with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan hedging his position recently on CNN’s “State of the Union.” Despite this, the Biden administration has directed every element of the intelligence community to put resources into finding the origin of the virus, including the national labs within the DoE.

On the Republican side, there is a call for accountability from the CCP, with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) tweeting on Sunday: “So the government caught up to what Real America knew all along.” The GOP also demands transparency from the U.S. government and a release of all the information concerning the Chinese lab leak and the origins of COVID-19.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Energy Department’s view is significant as it has considerable scientific expertise and oversees a network of U.S. national laboratories. In addition, people who read the classified report told the Journal that the Energy Department ranked its new judgment at “low confidence.” In contrast, the FBI ranked its same conclusion in 2021 at “moderate confidence” and maintains that view.

The intelligence community has been criticized for lacking reliability, as shown by the 51 officials who were discredited for suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story. Republicans are calling for a thorough and objective investigation and for the U.S. government to be transparent about its findings.

The origin of COVID-19 continues to be a point of contention between the Biden administration and the Republican party. While the DoE has joined the FBI in concluding that the virus was most likely leaked from a lab in China, the U.S. government remains divided on the issue. Republicans are calling for transparency and accountability from the CCP and the U.S. government, while the Biden administration is directing resources to investigate the virus’s origin. The coming days will be critical to the search for actual accountability to the public.
