House Republicans Begin Investigation Of Biden’s Classified Document Mishandling
House Republicans initiated an investigation on Tuesday into the revelation that classified material generated during Joe Biden’s time as vice president has been discovered at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C.
Reports indicated that at least ten classified documents had been found at Biden’s think tank organization. They allegedly include intelligence memos and briefing materials involving Iran and Ukraine. However, specific details about the content of the documents have not been made public.
Rep. James Comer (R-KY) is chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. On Tuesday, he wrote to White House Counsel Stuart Delery to advise him of the committee’s investigation into Biden’s “failure to return vice-presidential records — including highly classified documents — to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in violation of the Presidential Records Act.”
Comer wrote that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and NARA have “made compliance with the Presidential Records Act a top priority.” That statement directly references the FBI raid the administration initiated at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence last year.
Comer also noted that Biden has said he “was not going to ‘get myself in the middle of whether or not the Justice Department should move or not move on certain actions they could take.’” As a result, Comer said the committee will ensure that Biden receives “equal treatment under the law given that he maintained classified documents in his unsecured office for several years with access to an unknown number of people.”
He noted that the fact that the president and his son, Hunter Biden, undertook steps to share a private business office with at least one person “affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party” leads to questions about who had access to classified information Joe Biden has mishandled.
Comer’s letter demands all documents “retrieved from President Biden’s personal office at the Penn Biden Center” and all communications regarding those documents.
Comer also called for the names of all people who have had access at any time to Joe Biden’s personal office at the Penn Biden Center.
The letter calls for documents and communications regarding handling classified materials by Biden’s personal attorneys. It also asks for the security clearance status of those persons.
Comer gave the White House two weeks to produce the demanded information.
