In a blistering critique on the Tuesday edition of his popular new Twitter show, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson addressed this week’s announcement of a plea deal for Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden. He focused on the perceived leniency offered to the younger Biden, with Carlson stating the agreement amounted to “a lifetime of sins washed away in an instant.”

Hunter Biden reportedly agreed to plead guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges, resulting in probation and an obligation to pay back taxes owed. Further, he is set to enter a diversion program due to charges linked to his allegedly untruthful federal form when applying for a gun license.

Highlighting the perceived discrepancies, Carlson lamented, “As far as Merrick Garland’s Justice Department is concerned, Hunter Biden is done.” He noted the lack of a pre-dawn raid, handcuffs, or press conference as has been seen with high-profile GOP defendants under the Biden Department of Justice (DOJ), adding, “Above all, there was no felony.”

The plea agreement, brokered after a five-year investigation, allows Hunter Biden to avoid the jail term similarly situated defendants have received.

Biden’s case is being overseen by U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss, a holdover from the Trump administration. Carlson argued the plea deal’s terms reflected the benefits of being the president’s son rather than his adversary. In a stark comparison, he highlighted former President Donald Trump’s prediction about the outcome, stating, “‘They’ll hit Hunter with something small to make their strike on me look fair,’ Trump wrote that about two weeks ago.”

Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Christopher Clark, stated, “Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement.” He further noted his client’s intention to move on with his life and continue his recovery.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), among others, has criticized the Department of Justice for handling Hunter Biden’s case, contrasting it with Trump’s predicament. He has decried the perceived two-tiered system of justice, arguing, “If you are the president’s leading opponent, the DOJ tries to literally put you in jail. If you are the president’s son, you get a sweetheart deal.”

Tucker went on to mock White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and his former employer, Fox News. After leaving Fox News in April under contentious circumstances, Carlson has continued pulling in millions of views on his Twitter show. Meanwhile, Fox News struggles to replace his time slot and regain even remotely similar viewership as Tucker attracted.
