Congressman Introduces Legislation To Reimburse Texas For Border Security Efforts
Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX) has introduced a bill in Congress to reimburse Texas for the billions of dollars it has spent on border security.
The “Operation Lone Star Reimbursement Act” would reimburse Texas for nearly $4 billion of expenses used to increase border security in response to President Joe Biden’s open-borders policies that have allowed millions of illegal aliens to be released into the U.S. interior, a significant number of whom came through the Texas border with the help of Biden’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
“The Federal Government is primarily responsible for securing the borders of the United States at and between ports of entry,” the bill states, according to Fox News Digital. “Due to the lack of action by the Federal Government, the State of Texas has been forced to continually appropriate funds to secure the southern border of the United States.”
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Williams explained that the Treasury secretary would reimburse Texas if the bill were to pass — noting that Texas taxpayers deserve reimbursement for funding measures that are supposed to be the federal government’s responsibility.
“As the border crisis rages on, President Biden has failed to uphold his duty to defend our borders from foreign invasion, leaving border states like Texas to fend for themselves,” Williams told the outlet. “I am proud to introduce the Operation Lone Star Reimbursement Act to ensure Texans don’t have to continually shell out taxpayer dollars to secure the southern border of the United States.”
One such effort to secure the border was Texas’ placement of “concertina” razor wire fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border, which was repeatedly destroyed by federal agents who cut and removed the wire to facilitate illegal immigration. Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court shockingly issued a temporary ruling that allowed the Biden administration to continue destroying Texas’ razor wire fence while the court considers the case, vacating a Fifth Circuit Court injunction that barred the federal agents from doing so.
This ruling essentially forced Texas to continue wasting its taxpayers’ money to replace the repeatedly destroyed border barrier, as Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) immediately announced that state law enforcement would continue placing razor wire to deter illegal immigration.
In a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, responding to the Supreme Court ruling, Abbott declared that “Biden has instructed his agencies to ignore federal statutes that mandate the detention of illegal immigrants” and that the president had “enticed illegal immigrants away from the 28 legal entry points along the State’s southern border.”
“Texas’ razor wire is an effective deterrent against the illegal border crossings encouraged by Biden’s open border policies. We continue to deploy this razor wire to repel illegal immigration,” Abbott vowed in another post.
