During Wednesday’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland claimed that he could not recall whether he had spoken to anyone at the FBI headquarters about the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden.

Garland’s comment came in response to questions from Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) during the committee hearing.

“Have you had personal contact with anyone at FBI headquarters about the Hunter Biden investigation?” the Louisiana congressman asked.

“I don’t recollect the answer to that question, but the FBI works for the Justice Department —” Garland began to respond.

“I’m sorry,” Johnson interjected. “You don’t recollect whether you talked to anyone at FBI headquarters about an investigation into the president’s son?”

“I don’t believe that I did,” Garland responded.

Responding to that exchange, the Judiciary GOP’s official account on X, formerly known as Twitter, posted: “What are they hiding?”

Garland also insisted during the hearing that he had “kept” his promise not to interfere in Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss’ investigation into Hunter Biden — claiming that Weiss, who has since been appointed as special counsel in the Hunter Biden case, had the authority to bring cases that he believed were appropriate.

However, Garland refused to answer any questions about his contact with Weiss.

“Under oath… your testimony is — you have not had any discussions with Mr. Weiss about this matter?” Johnson asked.

“Under oath, my testimony today is that I promise the Senate I would not intrude in his investigation. I do not intend to discuss internal Justice Department deliberations, whether or not I had them,” the attorney general replied.

“So, your testimony today is you’re not gonna tell us whether you had discussions with Mr. Weiss?” Johnson pressed.

Garland responded by continuing to obfuscate and refusing to answer Johnson’s questions.

Meanwhile, Hunter Biden has since been indicted by Weiss on three gun charges related to making false statements on a federal firearm purchase form back in 2018. According to his attorneys, Hunter Biden plans to plead not guilty on these charges. He may also soon be facing charges related to tax evasion. All of these legal problems come following the collapse of a “sweetheart” plea deal for Hunter Biden after U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika expressed concern over an immunity clause hidden in the agreement.

Several whistleblowers have come forward over the past few months to accuse officials of slow-walking the investigations into Hunter Biden, though Garland insisted during his testimony on Wednesday that there was nothing “cumbersome” about the process.
