Republican lawmakers have frequently asserted their commitment to investigating allegations that President Joe Biden and members of his immediate family have engaged in influence peddling in order to enrich themselves.

While GOP members of Congress have released some evidence to support such claims, recent whistleblower accusations could add significantly more fuel to the fire.

As a result, Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) are demanding relevant information from the Justice Department.

In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, the lawmakers wrote that they had received information indicating that the DOJ and FBI “possess an unclassified FD-1023 form that describes an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for political decisions.”

During a subsequent Fox News Channel interview, Grassley affirmed that “very credible sources within the department” provided the information cited in the letter.

“If the Justice Department and the FBI have any hopes of redeeming their once-trusted position with the American people, Garland and Wray must answer this subpoena and tell us what they’re doing with this information that we think is very credible based upon what whistleblowers are telling us,” he said.

Grassley went on to express concern that the Biden administration might attempt to classify the document in order to cover up alleged wrongdoing. In any case, he said he expects the “explosive” information will be “very difficult to get.”

Pushing for its release is worth the effort, he said, because “the American people deserve transparency from the FBI.”

Furthermore, Grassley asserted that the response to this request will determine how the public views both the DOJ and FBI.

“I would hope they’d want to enhance their credibility by cooperating with us on this,” he said.

For his part, Comer said that the whistleblower’s report “raises concerns that then-Vice President Biden allegedly engaged in a bribery scheme with a foreign national,” adding: “The American people need to know if President Biden sold out the United States of America to make money for himself.”

Along with Grassley, he said that he “will seek the truth to ensure accountability for the American people.”
