House Democrats circled the wagons on Monday in defense of the FBI less than a day before the agency was to hand over a key document concerning President Joe Biden and a bribery scheme.

The allegations concern an alleged $5 million international plot to trade influence for dollars.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) issued a subpoena in early May for FBI Director Christopher Wray. He was to hand over a specific form two weeks ago, and now House Republicans are threatening a contempt charge if Wray does not comply.

Wray responded by saying he would make a phone call to Comer to talk about the file that allegedly accused Biden of wrongdoing while he was vice president.

Meanwhile, Democrats are apparently lining up in his and the FBI’s defense.

Speaking to Punchbowl News, Oversight Democratic Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD) called the GOP warnings “a ludicrously overblown response.”

Raskin described the Republican threat as creating a mountain out of something that is not yet a molehill. He further called it “preposterous” that Wray is having his feet held to the fire “over a tip sheet that they think someone submitted to the FBI.”

Another Democrat dug deep into the party playbook when he found a way to blame former President Donald Trump for the House action.

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) called it “part of the assault on the FBI that the Republicans have launched, fueled by Trump’s hatred of the FBI.”

Comer strongly disagreed. He explained that whistleblower disclosures revealed to himself and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) that the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) have an unclassified FD-1023 form. This is a document that records an interview with a source.

The form is believed to detail an alleged scheme involving Joe Biden from his time as vice president and a foreign national.

Comer wrote that the form is believed to reference “the amount of money the foreign national allegedly paid to receive the desired policy outcome.”

Interestingly, the date on form is about two weeks after the Ukrainian government announced the existence of a $5 million bribe. It was paid to end an investigation into the founder of Burisma Holdings.

This is the Ukrainian gas company that first son Hunter Biden served on its board for many years. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) told Breitbart this week that the FBI and DOJ are protecting the Bidens from being implicated in a “real pay-to-play scheme.”
