On Saturday evening, Israeli officials announced that an aerial strike on a mosque in Gaza being used as a terrorist command center had prevented “a significant and imminent terror attack.”

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) revealed that it had launched the aerial strike on the terrorist command center located underneath the Al-Ansar Mosque early Sunday local time with the help of the Israeli intelligence agency Shin Bet. The terrorists were reportedly using the command center to prepare for and plan “a significant and imminent terror attack.”

“In a joint IDF and ISA activity, the IAF conducted an aerial strike on an underground terror compound in the Al-Ansar mosque in Jenin,” the IDF wrote in the statement. “The mosque contained a terror cell of Hamas and Islamic Jihad terror operatives who were organizing an imminent terror attack.”

The IDF went on to explain that the terrorists hiding in the mosque were the same people who were responsible “for several terror attacks over the last months.”

“Intel was recently received which indicated that the terrorists who were neutralized were organizing an imminent terror attack,” the statement continued. “The mosque was used by the terrorists as a command center to plan the attacks and as a base for their execution.”

The IDF also released images of the tunnels under the mosque, which showed that they were being used to store large quantities of various types of weapons.

This act of preventing another terror attack was part of a larger effort to eliminate terrorists in the Gaza Strip in response to the October 7 massacre of more than 1,400 Israelis and at least 27 Americans — which was carried out by the Palestinian terror group Hamas. Since that day, Israel has declared war on Hamas and has begun strategic aerial strikes against the terror group.

On Saturday, Israel increased these targeted air strikes in northern Gaza to continue softening up terror strongholds prior to sending in ground forces. The IDF also targeted Hezbollah terrorists on the Israel-Lebanon border on Saturday after the Iranian-supported terrorist group continued to launch small-scale attacks on Israeli military forces.
