Leftists are outraged after the AP Stylebook issued a recommendation for people to avoid using one of the left’s favorite acronyms — “TERF,” which stands for “trans-exclusionary radical feminist.”

Amid the continued cultural debate over so-called “transgender” individuals demanding to be allowed into women-only spaces, pushing for inappropriate and explicit books and events to be shown to children and attacking anyone who disagrees with radical gender ideology, the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook is now advocating against using some common phrases utilized by the left to label individuals who disagree with them.

The term is often-used by the left to attack anyone — even conservatives who are professed anti-feminists — for being against radical gender ideology and transgenderism.

The AP Stylebook explained the recommendation in a tweet.

“Avoid the vague and politicized terms trans-exclusionary radical feminist or its acronym, TERF, and gender-critical to describe cisgender women or others who object to the inclusion of transgender women in women’s spaces. Instead, be specific about a person’s or group’s objections, and paraphrase quotations that use the terms unless needed for a compelling reason,” the tweet read.

Leftists quickly jumped on the tweet to attack the AP Stylebook’s suggestion, accusing them of being “transphobic” and even calling them “TERFs.”

“This isn’t a style tip. It’s a politically-motivated transphobic wet-paper-towel mealy-mouthed stance. This is wrong, and it’s anti-queer, and cruel. Do better, AP. Right now,” one person claimed.

“This is journalistic malpractice,” another user asserted.

“TERF is specific. It says exactly what it means. You are f—ing cowards at best, and TERFs at worst. Literally trash. Glad that my editorial house doesn’t follow your style, and I will certainly not be taking advice from you any time soon,” another Twitter user wrote.

“‘TERF’ and ‘Gender Critical’ are concise, useful terms that describe a reactionary political bloc whose ‘objections’ are based in transphobia and junk science. AP is laundering a hate movement’s reputation and giving it legitimacy it doesn’t deserve. Shameful,” another person claimed.

“Pretty f—ed up that @APStylebook is siding with literal fascists trying to literally kidnap and literally murder trans people rather than advise journalists use the literal descriptive term. Cowards!” another wrote.

Meanwhile, conservatives also called out the AP Stylebook for using the word “cisgender” to describe actual women in their tweet.

“1. There is no such thing as a ‘cis’ woman. We reject your homophobic, misogynistic label & associated clerical power structure. 2. They don’t ‘reject the inclusion of transgender women,’ in women’s spaces, they support the exclusion of all men, regardless of how they identify,” one Twitter user explained.

Another Twitter user suggested a better descriptor for those who have been called TERFS, writing: “How about ‘non-cultists’? It’s an accurate description.”
