Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), following the lead of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), has banned Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) from the House Intelligence Committee — and Schiff has vowed revenge.

While the norm in the House of Representatives used to be that each party would select their own committee members, Pelosi broke with tradition in the last Congress to remove Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) from their committee assignments. Critics were furious over Pelosi’s actions, with Republicans vowing to take advantage of the new norm as soon as they regained the majority as a response to Pelosi.

After regaining the majority, McCarthy stated that he would be removing Schiff and Swalwell from the committee.

While serving as the Chairman of the Intelligence Committee, Schiff blatantly lied to the American people. He promoted the debunked theory that then-President Donald Trump had colluded with Russia, even claiming to have seen actual evidence to support that theory when he hadn’t.

Further, when Schiff held the position of lead impeachment manager, he “famously read out a made-up call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for dramatic effect amid Democrats moving to impeach Trump,” according to Breitbart News.

“Adam Schiff openly lied to the American public,” McCarthy told reporters during a press conference earlier this month. “He put America for four years through an impeachment that he knew was a lie at the same time we had Ukraine, at the same time we had Afghanistan collapse. Was that the role of the Intel Committee? No.”

Meanwhile, Swalwell has lost his credibility over his intimate relationship with a Chinese spy named Fang Fang.

“Let me phrase something very direct to you: if you got the briefing I got from the FBI, you wouldn’t have Swalwell on any committee,” McCarthy told reporters. “He cannot get a security clearance in the private sector.”

McCarthy has been vowing to take this action for some time, even before Republicans regained the majority.

“I’ll promise you this — when I’m Speaker, [Schiff] will not be on the Intel Committee anymore,” he told Fox News in June. “And you know what else, Swalwell won’t either. I don’t know if this is a high bar. But if you have relations with a Chinese spy, you shouldn’t be allowed to be on the Intel Committee.”

Despite McCarthy announcing that Schiff and Swalwell would not be getting their desired committee assignments, House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) again tried to nominate the two for the Intelligence Committee.

McCarthy rejected those appointments, prompting Schiff to vow revenge.

“Kevin McCarthy just kicked me and @RepSwalwell off the Intelligence Committee. This is petty, political payback for investigating Donald Trump,” the disgraced congressman tweeted. “If he thinks this will stop me, he will soon find out just how wrong he is. I will always defend our democracy.”
