Many members of the mainstream media are shocked and outraged after learning about polls showing that former President Donald Trump is in a statistical tie with President Joe Biden — and the left-wing news anchors and commentators are complaining about how Trump’s “baggage” hasn’t ruined his chances at reelection.

The most recent polls show that in a hypothetical rematch between Trump and Biden, Trump has gained significant ground over the past two weeks — closing the gap between himself and his rival to just seven-tenths of a percentage point, according to the RealClearPolitics average.

The latest Wall Street Journal poll showed Biden and Trump tied at 46% each — which has shocked mainstream media commentators. The poll was more in depth than just voters’ choice of candidate, as it showed that voters strongly disapprove of the way Biden is handling the economy, inflation, border security and China. In contrast, respondents gave Trump a higher rating than Biden on being “mentally up for the job,” having “a vision for the future” and “has a strong record of accomplishments as president. However, Biden did score higher than Trump on honesty and being “a likable person.”

“It is kind of shocking in a way that despite all of the baggage that Donald Trump carries, he’s tied with Joe Biden right now,” ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos said regarding the poll.

“With every passing month, with every new indictment, Donald Trump seems to be consolidating his control over the Republican Party,” he added.

Former Democrat Party Chair Donna Brazile agreed with Stephanopoulos in his concern about the poll, telling the ABC News anchor: “When I looked at that recent poll, the Wall Street Journal, I said, ‘this could keep me up at night.’”

The leftist co-hosts of ABC’s talk show “The View” were also shocked about Trump tying with Biden in the polls. Alyssa Farah Griffin — who briefly worked in the Trump administration before turning on the former president and later joining “The View” as the token “Republican” who agrees with her leftist co-hosts on nearly every issue — wondered why Republican voters would continue to support Trump amid his legal battles.

“Donald Trump is still polling near 60% in the GOP primary and I’ve been asking myself how is that possible? We’re the party of law and order and I put the blame at the feet of some of the GOP candidates running against him,” Farah Griffin said.

Co-host Sara Haines complained that Trump supporters don’t care about the Democrats repeatedly indicting the former president — whining that they only seem to support him more after every indictment “no matter how serious the charges.”

Sunny Hostin, another leftist co-host, responded by claiming that Trump’s tie with Biden in the polls represented a deeper problem within the Republican Party — arguing that Trump supporters put “power before country” and “party before country.”
