President Joe Biden’s trip this week to the Texas border with Mexico was filled with the expected excuse making and at least one surprise. The commander in chief debuted a new term the White House now uses to describe the millions of illegal migrants invading the country.

“Newcomers.”

That’s akin to saying that Poland historically welcomed “newcomers” in 1939. Not illegals, not invaders, not even undocumented persons. Simply newcomers.

Biden spent his Thursday in Brownsville in a glaringly apparent move to counter former President Donald Trump’s visit to Eagle Pass the same day. Accompanying his journey was a new “fact sheet” produced by the White House for the uninformed.

Within it, these illegal migrants who are pouring into the nation by the millions are described as newcomers to the U.S.

Is this a new administration talking point? Are Americans to segue from referring to illegal aliens as what they are? It was not long ago when many of the left switched to “undocumented” to describe those with no business being in the country.

The Oval Office would do well to note that Biden’s approval rating on immigration issues is a paltry 26%. It is doubtful that calling the mass invasion the work of newcomers will change that.

As could be expected, Republicans pounced on the attempted twist on the language by Democrats.

The House GOP Conference posted on X, formerly Twitter, “The Biden White House is now referring to illegal immigrants as ‘newcomers.’ Joe Biden is not serious about stopping the illegal immigration into the United States. This is a catastrophe by design.”

The administration rejected the criticism and fell back on its recent mantra of blaming Republicans for crushing its pet immigration bill.

What the White House failed to acknowledge was the thousands of illegal migrants who through new law would be permitted to enter the country every single day.

This was unacceptable to true conservatives, and House Republicans unified in their opposition.

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre parroted this talking point, accusing the GOP of getting in the way of fixing the “broken immigration system.”
