During a Friday appearance on NBC News, Vice President Kamala Harris refused to confirm whether she or President Joe Biden would participate in presidential or vice-presidential debates.

Harris’ comments came during an interview with NBC News chief White House correspondent Peter Alexander on “NBC Nightly News.”

Alexander asked: “Mr. Trump has challenged the president to debate him any time, anywhere, any place. Will President Biden commit to debating Donald Trump?”

“I haven’t talked to the president about that yet. But I will tell you something if you want to look at the split screen to understand what is at stake,” Harris began.

She then tried to rewrite Biden’s presidency, claiming that the man who has displayed clear signs of cognitive decline was “competent” compared to his predecessor and likely opponent in the November presidential election, former president and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Harris also smeared Trump over a clear joke about being “a dictator on day one.”

The vice president even went so far as to argue that Trump would “weaponize the Department of Justice against his political enemies” — something that the Biden administration is currently doing to conservatives on a massive scale, including the excessive sentencing of Jan. 6 defendants, political prosecutions of Trump, arrests of journalists and the imprisonment of peaceful pro-life activists.

“On the one hand, you’ve got Joe Biden, someone who is competent, who is principled, who has accomplished more than many presidents even hoped for, be it on infrastructure, on climate, on health care,” Harris claimed. “On the other side of that split screen, you’ve got the former president, who glorifies dictators and has said he’ll be a dictator on day one. Someone who has said that he will weaponize the Department of Justice against his political enemies.”

“The split screen is clear,” she added.

Alexander then pressed Harris again about the debates, asking: “Should President Biden debate him in your view?”

She again refused to provide a clear answer, stating: “That is a choice. This is going to be decided upon soon, and we will keep you posted.”

“Will you commit to a debate?” the NBC News correspondent asked.

Harris refused to answer this question as well, responding: “Peter, we just got through the State of the Union. And I’m just so excited about what we accomplished last night and our president.”

This is just the latest in a long line of undemocratic actions by the administration that consistently accuses its opponents of being “threats to democracy.” From trying to jail Biden’s chief political rival, to trying to remove Trump from the ballot, to Attorney General Merrick Garland’s stated efforts to oppose election security measures — it is clear that the Biden administration has been pulling out all the stops to shield the president from anything that could hinder his reelection efforts, even if their actions aren’t exactly “democratic.”
