New Poll Finds Trump Shooting Up As DeSantis Falls
A new survey conducted in May by Harvard-Harris concluded that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s projected support in the 2024 GOP presidential primary is declining whereas former President Donald Trump’s is shooting up.
The poll, sampling 2,004 registered voters, found that Trump has the backing of a majority of GOP voters at 58%. Meanwhile, DeSantis is far behind, trailing Trump in second place with 16% support.
Breitbart News noted that this marks a four-point decline for DeSantis, as he garnered 20% in the previous survey. The former president, on the other hand, went up by three points.
Other candidates, both hypothetical and already announced, in the poll included businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, former Vice President Mike Pence, and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who all received about 4% support each. Behind them was Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) at 3%, along with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (R), who commanded a paltry support of 1% each.
It is no secret that a rivalry of sorts has been brewing between Trump and DeSantis for quite some time, arguably starting once rumors of the Florida governor potentially making a 2024 run for the White House began brewing among conservative circles.
Recently, the Trump campaign posted an attack ad against DeSantis that suggested he is disloyal, ungrateful, and is only in the position he has now because the former president endorsed him back when he first ran in the Florida GOP gubernatorial primary.
Now, The Hill has reported that a source close to DeSantis has said he will officially declare his candidacy for United States president next week, with the filing anticipated to occur just prior to a meeting with donors in Miami.
“As I said – Ron is unelectable. I am up on Crooked Joe Biden by at least 7, and Ron DeSanctimonious is losing by 4. His ‘campaign’ has been a total disaster!” Trump declared Friday on Truth Social, posting results of a recent poll.
“When the Ron DeSanctimonious facts come out, you will see that he is better than most Democrat Governors, but very average, at best, against Republican Governors,” he wrote in another post.
The former president went after DeSantis for his reaction surrounding the COVID-19 viral outbreak along with his ongoing feud with Disney, saying, “How about the fact that he had the third most deaths of any State, as Governor, on the China Virus. Even Cuomo did better, #4. He shut down everything, EVEN HIS BEACHES. Other Republican Govs didn’t. Look at the Disney MESS, could have worked an easy settlement, but no, he wanted the Fake News to show what a tough guy he is. He’s not!”
