NYC May Order Curfew At Illegal Alien Centers Amid Rising Crime
New York City may soon implement a curfew at the shelters housing illegal aliens across the city, as one Republican city councilwoman has declared that what’s “good enough for homeless New Yorkers” should be good enough for illegal aliens.
Homeless shelters typically institute curfews for all residents, but for an unknown reason, New York City has never enforced those rules on illegal aliens. On Thursday, Queens Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R) proposed implementing a curfew for shelters housing illegal aliens after reports emerged of those illegals being caught panhandling.
“I asked questions about the possibility of a curfew at migrant shelters. I think a curfew should be set because homeless people [staying in NYC shelters] have curfews,” Ariola told the New York Post in a statement.
“If it’s good enough for homeless New Yorkers it’s good enough for migrants,” the Republican councilwoman added.
New reports have since emerged that New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) and his administration are considering the idea as the city continues to struggle with the consequences of President Joe Biden’s border crisis and New York City’s “sanctuary city” policies. As the city has reportedly taken in more than 100,000 illegal aliens, shelters and resources have become overwhelmed.
Adams’ director of Asylum Seeker Operations, Molly Schaeffer, told the New York Post that curfews for illegal aliens are “something they were looking into.”
Meanwhile, New Yorkers living near the tent shelters built in Brooklyn’s Floyd Bennett Field for illegal aliens have complained about the situation.
“Because of its isolation, nearby residents say migrants have been walking into their residential neighborhoods and begging to get help,” the New York Post reported.
Paul Sanzone, 52, who has lived in the area for thirty years, told the outlet that the illegal aliens have been coming to his door on a “regular basis” — declaring the issue to be “alarming.”
“Sanzone and his wife been left ‘on edge’ after two migrants who appeared to be wearing ankle monitors came to their home asking for food,” the outlet noted. “A spate of crime at some shelters — including drug dealing, and even a fatal stabbing at the Randall’s Island tent city over the weekend — has also left residents concerned about the situations near them.”
The chaos has only gotten worse after illegal aliens residing in Floyd Bennett Field were transported out of their tent city earlier this week due to an impending storm and were relocated to a nearby school, forcing the students out of class and prompting outrage from the local community.
