Despite demands from the Biden administration to cease their efforts to secure the border and hand over control of Shelby Park to federal authorities, Texas has continued arresting illegal aliens for trespassing in the area and invading the state.

In a bold move last week, Texas seized control of Shelby Park, a 47-acre public park in Eagle Pass that the Biden administration had been using to facilitate illegal immigration. Large numbers of illegal aliens were crossing the southern border and entering the U.S. through the park, where U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents were waiting to welcome them in, process them and facilitate their transportation into the country.

The Texas government decided last week that they would no longer allow this to happen and took control of the park, arguing that it was necessary because the Biden administration was using the area to make the border crisis worse.

In a statement, the Texas Military Department declared: “The Texas National Guard has maintained a presence with security points and temporary barrier in Shelby Park since 2021. The current posture is to prepare for future illegal immigrant surges and to restrict access to organizations that perpetuate illegal immigrant crossings in the park and greater Eagle Pass area.”

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez addressed the issue in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, where he announced that state troopers had begun arresting illegal aliens in Shelby Park.

“Under the authority of [Governor Greg Abbott’s] Border Disaster Declaration, [Texas DPS] Troopers are arresting illegal immigrants for criminal trespass at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. Troopers are enforcing criminal trespass on single adult men & women. The State of Texas will maintain a proactive posture in curbing illegal border crossings between the ports of entry,” he posted on X.

Photos have already begun going viral on social media showing Texas law enforcement arresting illegal aliens.

There have also been several videos shared on social media of illegal aliens being taken into custody in Shelby Park.

Two illegal aliens apprehended were revealed to have been from Azerbaijan, while another was from Ecuador, according to another post from Olivarez.

“Troopers arrest two males for criminal trespass from the Republic of Azerbaijan. At 7:30 pm, troopers encountered a group of 3 illegal immigrants who trespassed at #ShelbyPark by crossing through concertina wire. The two males from Azerbaijan & one from Ecuador were arrested & jailed for state criminal trespass,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration is outraged over Texas’ attempt to secure the border and their refusal to allow federal agents access to Shelby Park. In a cease-and-desist letter sent on January 14, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) demanded that Texas relinquish control of the park back to Border Patrol.

In a fiery response, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) declared that his state has no intention of surrendering to the Biden administration’s demands.

“Texas will not surrender to Biden’s destructive open-border policies. Attorney General Paxton will continue to defend Texas as it uses its constitutional authority to defend state territory, sovereignty, and citizens,” Paxton wrote in a press release on Wednesday in response to the letter.
