Despite the fact that former President Donald Trump has not been convicted of any crime related to the four indictments against him from activist District Attorneys this year, many of his critics seem unable to hide their glee at the possibility of seeing him locked up.

That group apparently includes Fani Willis, the district attorney in Fulton County, Georgia, who is overseeing a racketeering case against Trump and other defendants.

She was recently asked whether her office would consider any agreement that would keep the former president from serving time behind bars if he is convicted.

During a recent segment with CNN reporter Nick Valencia, Willis paid lip service to the due process Trump is guaranteed under the Constitution.

“I know that in the media, and even in the world, we like instant gratification,” she said. “The judicial process is a long process, and so we’ll be here with that case for a while.”

Valencia pressed further, however, asking a pointed question regarding a scenario in which Trump has been convicted.

“When I get asked that I’m covering the story, many people say, you know, the former president has already gone to jail,” he said. “Will he see prison time? What do you think about that?”

The prosecutor responded to his awkwardly worded question by taking a thinly veiled shot at Trump and his supporters.

“I think that everyone in society is the same, and I don’t know why that’s such a difficult concept for people,” Willis said. “You can look at the charges, and based on those charges we’ll be recommending appropriate sentences. No one gets a special break because of their status.”

The remarks came on the heels of her previous assertion that the trial would carry on as planned despite the fact that Trump is currently campaigning for another term in the White House. She dismissed any speculation that the trial should be delayed as a “silly notion.”

Willis’ office has indicated a plan to begin the trial in August, just as the general election season reaches a critical point. Trump continues to maintain a massive lead over the other GOP presidential primary candidates and is widely expected to secure a third-straight party nomination next year.
